This is George Romero’s 1968 Zombie film “Night of the Living Dead”. It is the basis for most of this sort of stylized zombie. A lot of movies were based on the same premise of people hiding someplace and being inadequate to zombie attack.

These movies are a fun romp with some subterranean monsters that will eat your station wagon if you’re not careful. The best of these was Tremors, but unlike a lot of sequels, these movies hold up well in the subsequent installments. The first is almost worthwhile just to see Reba McIntire blowing away the “graboid” creatures with a ridiculously big gun.
