Stranger, The (1946)

thestrangerposterEdward G. Robinson pursues a nazi war criminal named Franz Kindler. He thinks it’s the kindly college professor played by Orson Welles. Only a dead man can link him to the crimes… or is it his own obsessions that will finally be his undoing. If you haven’t caught this film, this is a keeper in the realm of public domain films.

  1. I saw this film on cable tonight…E.G. Robinson was superb as always. A thriller I had never seen before. Sit back and enjoy the ride…

  2. Last night I watched this amazing piece of art. Welles at his best with the closeups and the long shots that define his style. The ending is a bit too long to my taste.

  3. I think the style finds itself in German impressionist cinematography like all film noir, but Orson Welles does it very well.
