Why Google Chrome?
For best results you should use Google Chrome for this web site. That’s because I am using html5 video if you have a browser that will support it. Google Chrome is currently the only browser that has durable support for html5 video. This isn’t some kind of arbitrary flame. When (and it should be pretty soon) other browsers support it they will be included.
Advantages include:
- Better speed and quality on slow computers.
- Ipad, iphone and tablet support.
- No video ads.
- No crashing, twitchy flash player.
If you use any other browser, you’ll get the flash player and video ads from blip tv and the site will use the flash player.
Why didn’t I use flash instead of html5? Because flash sucks and I would have to buy a flash player ($200). If you don’t make me buy a flash player, I won’t make you watch video ads.
If you are running linux, use Chrome too. It works great (unlike linux flash).
XP users should note that since they can’t run IE9, that alternate browsers such as Firefox and Chrome will give an experience that is up to current web standards. IE8 is deprecated and will never include modern browser standards.
yt:
I currently use Firefox 13.0. After reading your explanation of why you suggest it I decided to give it a try to see the difference. When I tried to DL Chrome it freezes up when I unclick the box that would make it my default browser. I don’t know what is causing this. After 3 tries I gave up. Maybe I’m just lucky but I still haven’t experienced a problem viewing anything on this site anyway. There must be a big difference in quality??
I don’t know what to say about that. You’ll find an advantage in running Chrome on wimpy computers and there are no ads in the html5 player. Other than that, it probably doesn’t really matter.
