Deep Red (1975)

Profondo Rosso follows music teacher Marcus Daly (Hemmings) as he investigates the violent murder of psychic medium Helga Ulmann (Macha Meril), which he witnesses in an apartment building. This movie is Rated R and being a very weird Italian film, from the really weird Italian film era, it probably shouldn’t be watched by anyone.

    1. Deep Red, the running length -( original format uncut) was 2.06.00 are you able to show movies uncut unedited? For the viewers guilty pleasure. Most sites have butchered these movies. For example:
Deep Red movie was edited to 1.40.26 Most people go on line for the same reason I do. Love Movies hate television.

      1. The English dubbed version of Deep Red never had the missing 24 minutes. This wasn’t just hacked out by the film distributors. This edit was supervised by Dario Argento. It’s missing a bit of animal cruelty at the behest of the British government film board, but other than that, this is the film Argento wanted to make for an English speaking audience. Some films, like Virus, have been hacked up. This film has an American version made by the director.

If you went to the theater in 1975, this is the version you saw.

You can tell care was taken with the English dub. You’ll forget it’s dubbed. I think Argento figured that an American audience didn’t want to sit through 2 hours, 6 minutes and he was probably right.

I don’t think the reason the film is shorter in the English language version was because of censorship except for 11 seconds of animal cruelty objected to by the Brits. This film is perhaps not as weird as The Marquis du Sade.

If you like this sort of psycho sexual, surreal, strange horror film:

This movie is strange. Like a clockwork orange strange.
