Black Dragons (1942)

The Society of the Black Dragons sends Bela Lugosi (Dr. Melcher) to transform 6 japanese into indentical likenesses of American industrialists forming a 5th column. This is at the behest of the Nazis. This film isn’t as good as British Intelligence (1940), but is sort of along the same lines as WWII was just about started to get rolling.

This is 62 minutes of low budget adventure that must have been well received by an audience of Americans who were attacked by Japan. The use of the word Jap is liberal here. Today we would not think of publishing anything so ethnically slanted. Clayton Moore looks pretty much a footballer in a suit. His voice is somewhat weak. Bela Lugosi actually did some physical manhandling of people and I will say he looked capable, even though his face is puffy and lax in skin tone.

Today most of us don’t remember a World War that killed 60 million people.
