I liked this movie. Hedy Lamar plays fashion editor Madeleine Damien who’s social life has given her a questionable reputation. Finally she succumbs to the pressures of work and a tarnished image and suffers an emotional breakdown. She seeks professional help from a kindly psychiatrist who recommends a complete change in lifestyle.
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Vienna, Austria and died in Altamonte Springs, Florida (near Orlando).
While married to her first husband, Friedrich Mandl, aka Fritz Mandl, an arms manufacturer, she became educated technically in her husband’s business.
Lamarr appeared in several European films, including Ecstasy (1933), in which she played a love-hungry young wife of an indifferent old husband. Closeups of her face in passion, and long shots of her running nude through the woods, gave the film notoriety. She also gained notoriety as one of the first actresses to bare her breasts in a major film and for faking an orgasm on film. Mandl bought up as many copies of the film as he could possibly find, as he objected to her nudity, as well as “the expression on her face.
In Hollywood, she appeared in many films, usually cast as glamorous and seductive, including Algiers (1938), White Cargo, and Tortilla Flat (both 1942), based on the novel by John Steinbeck. In 1941 she was cast alongside two other Hollywood beauties Lana Turner and Judy Garland in a musical extravaganza Ziegfeld Girl (1941), Her biggest success came in Cecil B. DeMille’s Samson and Delilah (1949) with Victor Mature as the Biblical strongman. Lamarr was cast more for her stunning exotic beauty – which the 1 October 1938 issue of Vogue described as a “fatal Sunday supplement beauty, somnambulistic and aloof” – than her ability as an actress.
a very good movie , reminded me somewhat of corporate women today ,
Hedy, put in a good performance,a must see film.
This is a very good movie. Hedy Lamar plays a complex character who is incredibly strong and yet very weak. Towards the end comes a surprising romance and murder mystery. Lamar looks absolutely beautiful.
ok ! ça vaut le détour! A good movie !
I enjoyed every moment of watching this movie. It kept my attention through out the entire movie. I was hoping that the couple ended up together as they did.
This would have to be one of my favorite films here. Hedy Lamar in anything is hard to beat. It’s not a wonder that she was so popular.
One film I rented recently was Samson and Delilah. I can’t show it here, but good for Lamar fans.

If you liked this movie, you also might like some of the Ava Gardner films here.
I think the only other film I can show with Hedy Lamar is Algiers. I’ll post that sometime soon.
Fantastic. It’s an interesting turn that you feel sorry for Hedy Lamar in this movie. But it’s so close maybe you wouldn’t. You guys should really watch this one.
