Cyrus Wentworth is upset by an accident involving his ocean liner that is carrying a shipment of illegal chinese bonds. He is shot in his office and his future son-in-law is arrested for the murder. Reporter Bobby Logan is convinced that Detective Bill Street is wrong, so she hires Wong. That’s James Lee Wong.
In short, this is a Charlie Chan movie, but the names were changed to protect the guilty. It’s just sorta Wong. James Wong to be exact. I mean wrong. If you like this crime noir stuff, I’d consider this one better than average. Karloff doesn’t pretend a funny Chinese accent, so that’s sorta refreshing compared to a lot of movies from this vintage.
