Bill Bixby plays Doctor David Banner, a scientist who is traumatized by the tragic car accident that killed his beloved wife Laura. Haunted by his inability to save her, Banner studies incidents of people who, while in danger, summon superhuman strength in order to save their threatened loved ones. In a lab mishap, he exposes himself to a massive dose of gamma rays and whenever he gets upset he turns into Lou Ferigno, eats Gorgonzola cheese and covers himself in green paint.
