The Last Man on Earth (Italian title: L’Ultimo uomo della Terra) is a 1964 Italian horror/science fiction film based upon the Richard Matheson novel I Am Legend. The film was directed by Ubaldo Ragona and Sidney Salkow, and starred Vincent Price. The script was written in part by Matheson, but he was dissatisfied with the result and was therefore credited as “Logan Swanson”. William Leicester, Furio M. Monetti, and Ubaldo Ragona were the other writers.
It was filmed in Rome, Italy, and was later released theatrically in the United States by American International Pictures. It has since fallen into the public domain. MGM Home Video, the current owners of the AIP film catalog released a digitally remastered widescreen print in September 2005. This is not that print but you can order it here.

NOT one of Vincent’s better performances. His lines were alright, but his physical acting was real bad (like watching him wrestle manikins into his car).
Boy he sure was skinny!
The zombies…oops…I mean vampires were some of the worst acting I’ve seen. The rest of the movie was well below par too.
No wonder Matheson didn’t want to put his name one it.
It is what it is.
As long as your expectations are not too high, you can still enjoy this flick.
Vincent Price can still make ANY line sound spooky!
So many people did movies based on this book that it’s getting boring. Sorry Kevin, but after watching the latest one with Will Smith it’s just bad timing to show this version.
Having seen the Will Smith version was one of the reasons I enjoyed watching this one.
It’s interesting to see the different versions/interpretations of the book.
Like watching two completely different movies.
I think I’ll watch “Omega Man” now and then maybe read the book.
It could be fun.
I watched the Omega Man last week and I think I like this movie better. Omega Man was more contemporary of “hippies”. Hippies just aren’t that scary, even when they’re zombies
I watched Omega Man.
The “Infected” in Omega Man were more intelligent than the other two, but not near as scary. In fact they were funny.
I liked the cars they used though. He had a thing for convertibles.
It was still interesting to watch all three.
It was cool man!
I very much enjoyed the V. Price version. I saw it as a child and it scared me bad. I still think is is one of the top movies from way back when.
Kevin it was not bad timing either. Any remake can not be better that the real thing
RE: Omega Man-
I thought Jonathan Mathais and “the family” were a riot!!!
I could replace a lot of politicians with those guys and
get better results.
Last Man on Earth brings back terrfic memories. I can remember
watching this in 73 from CH56 in Boston (ghoul movie).
Replace? I thought that’s who is running the country…..
I broke this file yesterday when I posted it. It’s fixed now.
Almost gave me a coronary with that damn jpeg (above)!!! goddamn!!
I saw this version on UHF in the early 70s….watching it late at night gave quite a spooky feel to it.
Especially when it shows dead people lying around and a church sign
that says, “THE END HAS COME” or whatever it was….can you imagine that?
Why would they put up a sign like that? Oh well, I won’t ever critique a movie
like this….too many good memories + THANKS for posting it Kevin..good to see you’re still at work!!
