I like to play an electric guitar and was playing today when I heard that Les Paul succumbed to pneumonia today at age 94. From 1941, when he invented “The log” a 4X4 with steel string strung on it that was embedded in a epiphone body to make it not look so much like … a log …, music changed with a new instrument no one had ever seen before.
Les Paul on Culture Catch
I found some old episodes of the Les Paul and Mary Ford show on YouTube.
Kev,
Thanks for these posts. Hope future guitarists will learn, and understand, the importance of Les Paul, his fabulous work, and his enduring love of the electric guitar.

I think it’s sort of amazing how the style developed past the way Les Paul played. If you look at the vids here…. before the whammy bar…. before power chords… The electric guitar is a versatile instrument that found it’s way into just about all styles of music and invented some.
i play a sg gibson but not so quick as Les Paul did,he must be jaming in Haven,,,Mercie,,,,Jules…
Wasn’t that the guitar that Les Paul hated and told Gibson to take his name off it? I’ve played one. I thought it was a top notch guitar. I don’t know what put the bee in Les Pauls bonnet about it. Maybe it was too light? I guess when you are Les Paul, you can be finicky.
I like a dive bomber and I’m cheap and/or broke mostly. I’ve been playing a Laguna LE524. I like Floyd Rose trem guitars. Works for me. Luckily the neighbors like me
