Revised Retrovision – Again

Tags:

lego_superman1I noticed Retrovision was getting slow again. I hate slow page load speeds. I think 2 seconds is still too long, but I can’t think of a way to do better.  Most of the slowness was the Recent Comments that I had on every page. So I moved it to it’s own page. If you look at the right, you’ll see a link for Recent Comments rather than it appearing at the bottom of the page. I’ll admit that page loads a little slow, but it took more than a second off of the page generation on the rest of the pages and provides a more comprehensive lists of your recent comments.  Leave it to me to drag a 2Ghz Athlon server down to slowness.  How fast are computers?  Never fast enough.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… no… it’s Retrovision! :)

I’ve also started adding some content that really doesn’t fall in to the category of Classic TV, but I liked some of the Video Feed channels that Blip.TV was showing.  Content like “Erik the Librarian” and “Easy Bake Lovin’” cracked me up.  I’m not to sure about “Drinking with Bob”.  I think the guy needs some librium.

I think you guys should like Coffee Shorts.  It’s an Independent Film channel from the UK showing some pretty good indy film and music videos.

Slowly the resurrection of WebRanger is a project.  It was my original site but has been dormant for a long time.  You could take a look, but I wouldn’t consider it to even be under construction yet.  I am using Joomla, which I’ve never used for a web framework before.  It may not stay that way.  It’s good to learn things though.

I think I’m going to play my guitar a while and go to bed.  I got some new strings to stretch out.  I’ve had a nasty cold and I helped my friend Dennis go to the dump with some garage junk.  I think I was a little too sick to go out in the cold.

If you like Old Time Radio, I’m going to try to add some more of that this week.  I have a pretty extensive collection, but it’s in a dead computer.  Repairing a couple of the old beasts I have around here is in the plans too.  How much I procrastinate is questionable.  It’s winter, but the weather has been decent enough that I think I want to get a little jump on my spring cleaning.

I hope you enjoy the site and have a nice evening.

Kevin

Kev, I totally agree w/Suzanne, u’re the best, for a lot of reasons. This is the only sight that I’ve spend a lot of time on where u can get the help needed whenever we cry out for help. I know u’ve helped me a lot, or helped me through other viewers.
Keep up the fantastic work, I always look forward to hearing a word from u.

Don’t worry about speeds – it is all well worth waiting for – and, anyhow, the site is plenty fast.
Good to hear bout the radio plans.
    I look forward to that.
And I hope that you will be fit and well soon.
    Take care.
