The first and only American television series of Sherlock Holmes adventures aired in syndication in the fall of 1954. The 39 half-hour mostly original stories were produced by Sheldon Reynolds and filmed in France by Guild Films, starring Ronald Howard (son of Leslie Howard) as Holmes and Howard Marion Crawford as Watson. Archie Duncan appeared in many episodes as Inspector Lestrade (and a few as other characters). Richard Larke, billed as Kenneth Richards, played Sgt. Wilkins in about fifteen episodes. The series’ associate producer, Nicole Milinaire, was one of the first women to attain a senior production role in a television series.

why did you get rid of the cool test pattern, it was a classic, bring it back!
There has never been one like Sherlock Holmes!
Kev
The Case of the Cunningham Heritage where Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes meet and team up is a good one indeed !
Still can’t beat Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as the originals though.
Enjoyed them all, and very happy for your site !
Thanks,
Rich
I added 3 more episodes to the end of the playlist today.
a good time for rejoicing ! thanks retrovision !
thanks for the new episodes, they are great!
a super film festival ! all episodes are good ! du très bon scherlock !
Well, was very good.
I wish more chanells would broadcast it and the websites would make seeing free movies online less complicated.
A proverb in my mother tongue
“Nasama pogattum indha website, nayy, goyalla, kirukku paya pulla, enga irundhu da ni vandha, saniyampiducchavane, panni, pakki, Koor Ketta Kookuru”.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! YOU IDIOTS, PETITCOCHON, NAYY, BLOODY BEGGERS!
Loved it guys, superb! Keep up the good work. Cool!
I just love Sherlock Holmes movies, they are always wonderful. This is a good website. But the one Sherlock Holmes film I loved best was the 2002 BBC Shelock Holmes movie “The Hound of the Baskervilles”, I only wish you’d show more new movies. Loved it, guys!
Movies here are predominantly in the public domain. I wish I could show more new movies too, but I’m allergic to lawyers, handcuffs, cops, and lawsuits.
I FOUND YOUR SITE AND HAVE WATCHED THE OLD SHERLOCK HOLMES MOVIES TILL I HAVE FINISHED ALL OF THEM. ONLY THING IS SOME LINKS DO NOT WORK. ARE THEY GONE FOREVER OR WILL THEY BE ACTIVATED IN THE FUTURE? THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY IN POSTING THIS FOR THE PUBLIC.
Which specific links? All of the links in this post looked like they worked when I just tried them. If you do encounter broken links, I would like to know about them. Of course, being as specific as possible would be helpful, because there are about 3000 links
Occasionally, because the shows are spread over a couple of dozen servers, you might encounter temporary outages.
TANK YOU,
THE TEXAS COWGIRL
THE CUNNINGHAM HERITAGE
THE CASE OF LADY BERYL
THE CASE OF THE SHY BALLERINA
I DO APPRECIATE THIS SITE
I didn’t find anything wrong with those shows, but I moved them to a different server. That should help.
No big deal, but I thought I would mention a bit of internet message etiquette. When you use all caps that indicates that you are YELLING! I doubt you meant to yell. I only mention it because it might someone might misunderstand your messages sometime.
if you don’t want to capitalize stuff using lower case is desirable.
Only your friend would tell you this
THE REASON I WRITE IN ALL CAPS IS I DO NOT SEE WELL. AS A MATTER OF FACT I HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME READING YOUR TEXT. DIABETES HAS RUINED MY EYES AND I HOPE YOU WILL EXCUSE MY ALL CAPS. I DO KNOW THAT ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED YELLING BUT IN MOST ROOMS NOW ABOUT HALF ARE ALL CAPS BECAUSE OF SO MANY WITH VISION PROBLEMS CANNOT WORK SO THEY ARE HOME. I BET SHURLOCK HOLMES WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT. LOL
HOLD DOWN THE “CONTROL” KEY AND TYPE “++”
Better huh? You can do it again if that’s not big enough.
Are you aware of browser zoom settings being incorporated in newer browsers? In firefox, that’s view–>zoom and in IE there is a zoom box on the lower right hand corner of the browser. You can zoom up to 400%.
Hotkeys:
CONTROL ++ …..zoom in
CONTROL – - …..zoom out
CONTROL 0 …..reset zoom
Not all sites like zooming, but Retrovision is mostly happy
I have just added this information to my FAQ file. When someone asks, other people have the same problem and don’t.
I really am enjoying this site, especially Sherlock Holmes. I would have to agree Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are my personal favorites though. Thank you for providing this entertaining site!
Glenn
where i can find sub for this series?
thanks for your time
This is a pretty good series. The only thing that bothered me was the first time they met. They met in A Study in Scarlet. They had me thinking of that the first 10 minutes of the show until they did a 180 on me and did some cunningham case. I was a bit surprised at that since I am a hardcore Sherlock Holmes fan. I just read the text above the videos and it said that they are original episodes so I’m not going to bash them. I am happy to have original episodes of Sherlock Holmes but I personally feel that the guy playing Sherlock Holmes wasn’t a good fit. I prefer Peter Cushing. But I guess they were unable to cast him for the role. But anyway, thank you Kevin for posting these and I am happy that they are public domain. These are good episodes and all of them work on my end btw. Nice clear picture as well. Thanks
It’s funny how you get Sherlock Holmes in your head and then interpretations you watch don’t meet your minds eye. I thought about the same thing about the new Holmes movie with Downey. For me Basil Rathbone will always be Holmes, but I liked the Jeremy Brett series a lot.
I’m so glad that I found this website. I was searching for Sherlock Holmes and found not only that but a goldmine of other classics. Thanks Kevin!
I concur that when you get one actor’s version of Sherlock in your head, it can be difficult to accept others. I first discovered the Basil Rathbone movies in reruns when I was a kid. He was my Holmes up until the time I became acquainted with the Granada Television series starring Jeremy Brett. To me, he is now the quintessential Holmes. I just purchased the entire series. Pricey, but worth it. I refuse to watch Guy Ritchie’s testosterone fueled version of Sherlock Holmes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle should be rolling over in his grave.
Thanks. I fell on this site looking for streaming versions of the original Dragnet or Groucho Marx’s, You bet your life. Like so many here Basil Rathbone will always be Sherlock Holmes to me. Thanks. Great site.
A most exelent preservation of classic episodes though I do miss the P.B.S. versions with the actor Jerremt Brett [ I believe that is the correct spelling of his name] A more complete collection with Basil Rathbone would be greatly welcome. There are just some renderings that should be preserved for future generations . These seem to be in safe hands . I am most impressed.
I have shown all the movies I have the legal right to show from the Basil Rathbone/Sherlock filmography. There is a DVD set remastered at UCLA film archive which has all 14 Rathbone/Sherlock films. I like the Jeremy Brett interpretation too. For both, you’re gonna need to buy/rent the DVDs.
I have read the stories of SHERLOCK HOMES in my 6th standard. these were awsome. Now today i have watched the Movie of SH(2009). I am greatly impressed by the acting and performance of the characters. so I am wondering to watch all the movies or plays of SHERLOCK HOMES. Could any one please tell me the sequence of these plays starting from the very first paly, THAKS

I see where some people are saying they wish you had more new movies on your site. Well, for me, Im glad you have the classics. Itsnice to come here and know I can find some of the old classics I love so much. Keep up the good work. It is appreciated
I did not see this film ! it is a good ,one
Thanks so much for having these available here! This website is great!
Bring back the cool test pattern. It is what made retrovision nostalgic for these fabulous 1950′s shows.
I can’t find a playlist for these 15 episodes. Only one, The Shy Ballerina, plays. I have a Mac running snow leopard and use the latest version of Safari.
This is a known issue. The episodes are there, so you can skip through them with the arrow keys, but this flash player is messed up. It’s an issue I can’t cure by myself. I do have an inquiry in to appropriate tech support.
