Lugosi was actually quite good in this. Too bad he didn’t get used more in early television.

  2. Kevin says:

I added 4 more episodes today.

These are terrific little Suspense plays once you get past the autolite commercials :) I have always liked the Old Time Radio series Suspense, so it’s neat to see these TV shows played.

What an absolute treasure! I seem to remember some of them from when I was little. I have been looking for a long time for a tv show I saw when I was quite young in the fifties and it featured a water tower and was scary. Have never been able to figure out what show it was from. If it rings anyone’s bells, please post here! Thanks! I love this website!

  6. Kevin says:

Since everyone seems to be enjoying these episodes…. I added a few more.

i love suspense!!! i had know idea there was a tv show i’ve listened to the man in the house before so it was so awesome to watch!! my favorite suspense program is sorry wrong number if it’s a tv episode please upload it!!!!

    kevin you are awesome!!!

  13. Kevin says:

I don’t think they ever did “Sorry Wrong Number” on the Suspense TV series. The radio show is available over at the Retrovision Radio site. I agree about the radio show with Agnes Moorehead. I remember listening to that first when I was a kid in the dark. Scary! :)

Sorry Wrong Number was adapted to a 1948 suspense film with Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster. I can’t show that here, but it’s worth a rental.

Adapted from radio… to a motion picture… and back to radio. How weird is that?

    One more goodie:

Here’s the 1950 Old Time Radio version of Sorry Wrong Number. Lux Radio Theater 1950.

    Kevin–GREAT JOB!

It is truly GRAND to view these nostalgic jewels INCLUDING the Auto-Lite hosting! The former is wonderfully entertaining and the latter provides excellent insight regarding ever-changing technologies!

  15. Apparently there was a time when TV shows were better than the commercials! Lagosi was at his best in A Cast for Amontillado.

  16. Eyedunno says:

I have to be a dissenter. Watching this, I find it amazing that television ever beat out radio. Of course, by the sixties, television had come of age (witness the brilliance that is the original Twilight Zone), but wow, this is just laughable compared to the Suspense radio show. “A Man in the House” was amazing on the radio show, but here, it’s unbelievably campy.

  17. Kevin says:

I’d sort of agree with you. I don’t think people knew what to do with TV yet. I think these are sort of like the radio plays, but translating to television lost something.

I still thought these were fun and nostalgic. Hope you find something else to entertain you.
