Fidel: The Untold Story (2001) Gangster Story (1959)

Two Weeks to Live (1943) – Lum n Abner

Once again the fellers’ from Pine Ridge mess it up!!

The creation of co-stars Chester Lauck (who played Columbus “Lum” Edwards) and Norris Goff (Abner Peabody), Lum and Abner was as low-keyed as Easy Aces, as cheerfully absurdist as Vic and Sade, and raised The Goldbergs ethnic focus by amplifying the protagonists’ regional identities. As the co-owners of the Jot ‘em Down Store in the then-fictional town of Pine Ridge, Arkansas, they were always stumbling upon moneymaking ideas only to get themselves fleeced by nemesis Squire Skimp, before finding one or another way to redeem themselves, Lum and Abner played the hillbilly theme with deceptive cleverness: The hillbillies just knew the slickers were going to get theirs, sooner or later, and either didn’t mind or knew more than they let on that the slickers getting theirs was a matter of fortunate circumstance.

Wonderful and hilarious tale of Abner’s last days. These hillbillies preceded similar characters in late 60s TV. In Lum, one is reminded of Buddy Ebsen’s Jed from the Beverly Hillbillies. And Abner foreshadows Pat Butrum’s Haney from Green Acres.

I have to agree with David Detroit. I actually laughed out loud at the antics of these two ol’ gents. How refreshing!

    This is a great flick!
The story might be a little “cheesy” but the acting is surprisingly good for the era. Especially some of the support actors.
The special effects for the rocket at the end are better than most for the time.
All in all, good clean fun!
I’ve never seen Lum and Abner before watching these films here and loved every minute of them.
    Keep them coming!
    Thanks

Yeah, wonderfully charming little movie featuring the lovable duo of Lum n Abner. I love the old radio show featuring these two and they almost look how I imagined them when listening to their OTR show. Suprisingly good acting for this type of film as well. If you have ever enjoyed listening to Lum n Abner then sit back with a hot cup of coffee and you will be transported back in time to days when the world wasnt so cold, cruel and impersonal. Take care all. Thanks to Retrovision for always providing some really rare classics that never even see the light of day on the classic movie channels such as TCM or AMC. Retrovision was around before all the video hosting sites started popping up everywhere and I have a feeling that it will be here when they are all gone by the wayside. LOL..least I hope so. Well, gotta go..grannies I believe thats my ring…..doggies it is!

This part of the movie is only 22 minutes long. Where’s the rest of it?
