eleonoreThe Smithsonian channel has posted this documentary about three bodies found at Český Krumlov, a small city in southern Bohemia. The bodies were found decapitated, impaled and with their head put between their legs so thet they could not place their decapitated heads back on their body. It shows that Bram Stokers novel Dracula might be based on the 18th century Bohemian princess Eleonore von Schwarzenberg who was said to drink the milk of captured wolves in order to become fertile and bear a male heir.

To Europeans in the midst of an early 18th century vampire scare was in full swing. Eleanor died in 1741 and her unusual autopsy might have been an intervention to prevent her from turning into a vampire.
