Voodoo Island is a 1957 horror film featuring the popular horror icon Boris Karloff. The film is set in the South Pacific and was filmed on Kauai, Hawaii. After being released theatrically by United Artists in 1957, the film was briefly re-titled “Silent Death” for its 1962 theatrical re-release. It is an incredible example of a 1950’s B film.
A wealthy businessman hires an “hoax buster” to prove that an island he purchased isn’t haunted by voodoo magic. He wants to build a resort hotel. Phillip Knight, the investigator, finds that the island is indeed a haven for the practitioners of voodoo and is infested with carnivorous cobra plants that “feed on women and rip men apart”.
