The Whispering Shadow (1933) is a serial film, starring Bela Lugosi in his first serial role.

Lugosi received $10,000 for this film, the highest known salary of his career for this film. (He also received the same amount for The Mystery of the Marie Celeste in 1935).

It was filmed in only 12 days. It was the last film for actor Karl Dane. If you’re a serial fan, this one is truly top notch.

The stunts in this movie are great. It looks like before the days of special effects that stunt men really risked life and limb!

I had a cold today and stayed home from work. I’ve been watching this thing on my laptop in bed. This thing is really fun. Villians with a twirly mustache, Bela Lugosi and his cute daughter with jeri-curls and a peter pan collar.

Lot’s of car and motorcycle crashes. Even a helicopter, if you could call it that. I’ll bet this serial did a pretty good job of getting people into the theater for some popcorn before the main feature.

nice choice for serial, first class action stunts and it has the “flavor” of what the serials were like
