A Quandry in Digital Broadcast TV

Some reading on the subject of the digital switch that was supposed to take place on February 17th has left Congress and people in the throes of somewhat of a dilemna. The NTIA which is supposed to manage the coupon…

A Tribute to Ed McMahon

Ed McMahon passed away at age 86. He was most famous for his work on television as Johnny Carson’s announcer on The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992, also as the host of the talent show Star Search from 1983 to 1995, also co-hosting with Dick Clark on TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes from 1982 to 1986.

Analog TV over on Wednesday – Questions?

Mike left this note (bottom of this post) in an earlier post I had here about DTV and a design for a Fractal TV antenna.
I mentioned the Terk antenna that I bought, but maybe you want to hold off…

How to Make a Fractal HDTV antenna - USA

This post was caught as spam in my comments section, but I thought it was a neat post and the theory behind it looks very plausible.   We’ll all be using the new digital broadcasting pretty soon, so I hope…

Is everybody ready for Digital?

June 12 is the end of an era in analog broadcast TV. It’s great. More free channels. Better video quality. It is going to require a little more equipment and perhaps a different antenna to get the new broadcast. I’ve…

Les Paul Dies.

I like to play an electric guitar and was playing today when I heard that Les Paul succumbed to pneumonia today at age 94. From 1941, when he invented “The log” a 4X4 with steel string strung on it that…

My Favorite Radio Station

KMHD is a listener supported broadcast radio station located here in Oregon. The studio is on the Mount Hood Community College campus, and the transmitter is located atop Portland’s west hills. A nonprofit organization that has been providing the Portland, Oregon community with quality jazz, blues, and traditional American music since 1984, KMHD is among the oldest listener supported Jazz radio stations in the USA.

New Feature – Browse

Trying to keep this web site simple, fast and still easy to browse has always been elusive. For a while, since there are about a thousand choices and a couple thousand shows, I have known that this web isn’t the easiest to navigate. To cure the problem at least to some extent I have included a new page. It has drop down menus for the most populated movie and TV show categories. You can still navigate by tags. This is just another way.

Look over to your right under the search bar and you’ll find the new “Quick Browsing Page”.

Revised Retrovision – Again

I noticed Retrovision was getting slow again. I hate slow page load speeds. I think 2 seconds is still too long, but I can’t think of a way to do better.  Most of the slowness was the Recent Comments that…

Snowbound in Portland

Here in the Portland Oregon Metro area, we’ve had a storm that we haven’t seen equaled for quite a while (like since a storm in 1968). There is about a foot of snow, covered by an inch of ice, covered…
