This text is too small. I have trouble reading it
Hold down the “CONTROL” key and type “++”
Better huh? You can do it again if that’s not big enough.
Recent Firefox and Internet Explorer browser have text zooming to help you read stuff if your monitor is too small or your arms aren’t long enough. I’m getting that way.
Hotkeys:
CONTROL ++ …..zoom in
CONTROL – – …..zoom out
CONTROL 0 …..reset zoom
Not all sites like zooming, but Retrovision is mostly happy
What about the ratings on this content?
Some of the movies on Retrovision are Rated R, so consider this site neither kid safe, nor work safe. I have tried to mark all the videos which possibly might offend clearly with a warning. If I missed any, then please leave a comment.
Most of the content on Retrovision is family and work friendly, some is not. So keep an eye on your kids, your own mild sensitivities and your boss.
Partial files – The movie doesn’t play all the way through
The internet is not perfect. Occasionally I’ll upload a file that isn’t complete. Usually however, the problem is that your connection to the internet got interrupted. This can be caused by overloading your connection with downloads. Or it can just happen. It’s really hard for me to overload my connection because I use FIOS. When you get an interrupted file, the flash player will save the broken file and not download it again. That means you should clear the temporary internet files, so that you get a fresh start.
In Firefox (the recommended browser):
Tools —> Clear private data —> Select Only “Cache” unless you wanted to clear other data.
In Internet Exploder:
It’s in Tools, choose the General tab, under “Browsing History” select “Delete”, then “Delete” files under “Temporary Internet Files”.
You can also just try restarting the browser. It works sometimes, but not always and don’t ask me why.
Some of the movies have audio sync problems.
Please report that with exactly the movie or TV show that has the problem.
Some of the movies don’t go to full screen.
Update your flash player…. See below…
What sort of Internet Connection do I need for Retrovision?
Retrovision requires a DSL/Cable or FIOS connection of 1mbps. A dialup modem will not work. Here is a post about connectivity problems if your connection should nominally meet the requirements and you’re still having trouble.
My computer is old and a little slow. The video jumps:
Try turning off the HQ mode of the player. Right click on the player and select “Switch to low quality”.
My internet connection is a little slow:
Use the pause button on the player to let the show buffer for a while.
I am not in the United States and some of the videos don’t work.
Some of the videos here are linked from other sites, such as Hulu, Fancast and Guba. Intellectual property rights prevent these shows from being shown outside of the United States. These movies and tv shows are marked USA only and the website automatically adds a message saying that these films are only available in the USA. About 25% of the video available here is USA only. The rest is available worldwide. Whining and sniveling about this in the comments will be cheerfully ignored.
I get no Audio on some of the movies
You probably don’t have the latest flash player. You need the latest flash player. See the next section.
What about the flash player?
If you don’t have the latest flash player, this might not work correctly for some videos. Furthermore, older versions of the flash player have security vulnerabilities and you should upgrade anyway. See the link below. It also contains a procedure that will tell you what to do about Internet Explorer, which can be cranky about installing flash correctly.
It’s Important that you have the LATEST Flash Player
What about Feedburner Email subscriptions?
About 2000 people have chosen to get site updates from Feedburner. When I add new movies, you’ll get them in your mailbox. For those of you who are not familiar with Feedburner, it is a completely legal opt-in/opt-out email system. In every email that you recieve, there is a link at the bottom to unsubscribe from the email feed. Your email address will never be shared with anyone. You will recieve no unsolicited email or spam as a result of using the subscription email service.

What about your RSS feed?
The last 50 posts are included in the RSS feed. It provides a way of simply navigating the last posts. The browser I like for this is Mozilla Firefox which allows the RSS feed to be used as a bookmark.
What browser should I be using?
I like Firefox. I have also been using Google Chrome. Internet Explorer should work, but it isn’t optimal and is slower and more cranky about things like seamlessly loading the flash player. Frankly Internet Explorer gives me a headache programming this web. I guess when you are Microsoft, you don’t have to follow conventions when designing a browser. I might also add that other choices (like Firefox, Safari, Chrome etc.) are more secure.
Google Chrome is very, very fast. It works great with Retrovision. It’s a good choice.
What about navigating with tags?
This site uses Smart links. If you see a tagged word, it will show up in green on the site. For example: Cartoons ….. Westerns ….. Sci-Fi. You can also used the Last 50 posts page and the Popular Tags page to help you sort through a couple thousand shows that you can see here.
Problems with Fancast Video?.
Some of the movies on Fancast are available here on Retrovision. Fancast does take quite a little bandwidth. More than Retrovision. If you are outside the United States you will probably get a message “This movie is currently unavailable”. I have had it happen to me that I got that message inside the United States. If that happens, reset your router and/or modem.
How many Movies are on Retrovision?
I lost count, but I think there’s somewhere around 1900.
What if I am using linux?
