Rocketship X-M (1950)

An inadvertent romantic comedy? I’m not sure I have enough mustard for the ham in this one. This movie features Lloyd Bridges, Osa Massen, John Emery, Noah Beery, Jr., Hugh O’Brian, Morris Ankrum, Patrick Ahern, Sherry Moreland, John Dutra and Katherine Marlowe. Four men and a woman blast into space on humanity’s first expedition to the Moon, a 48-hour journey. A malfunction causes the ship to drift off course and sends them hurtling to Mars. The rocket passes through clouds to land on Mars where they find evidence of a once-powerful civilization where everything is tinted orange. A romance ensues between stud muffin Lloyd Bridges and ice cube Osa Massen. By the time I got to the end of this movie I was shaking my head and laughing.

  1. Excellent!!!! I was three years old when this was made, I didn’t think filmmakers of that era were so space and rocketry saavy! The acting and camera work was pretty good for the age also.
